I enjoyed translating the Akanānūru poems, despite the many difficulties they posed. The poems are much longer than those in the other Akam poems like Kurunthokai and Natrinai, with strings of many levels of complicated descriptions listed continuously, one after another, which made translating quite a challenge. Also, half the poems are in Pālai thinai, which describes the pain of separation, and the desert environment is not one of happiness. These poems have many historical references, much more than the other Akam poems.
